If you voted LibLabCon, you brought him here.
Gazette Live: A FOREIGN worker who was jailed for 10 years for a series of rapes had come from countries where women were not even allowed the vote or to drive, said his lawyer.
Waseem Ajaib, 32, a Kashmiri welder, who was convicted after a trial at Teesside Crown Court, was still struggling to understand what went on, said his defence barrister Rod Hunt.
Ajaib was found guilty of five charges of raping a Teesside woman and one of actual bodily harm assault.
Prosecutor Shaun Dodds said that she was raped, on a number of occasions by Ajaib.
He said that there was a background of intimidation and violence to the acts.
Mr Dodds said that after the last rape in January she said to Ajaib “Is this how you were brought up?”, and he hit her with a shoe.
Mr Dodds added: “She was then video interviewed by police and she said that she had been raped.
“She also said that she had sustained black eyes on three previous occasions. Clearly she was scared of the defendant and he intimidated her.”
Ajaib, who denied all the allegations, had a four-day trial ending on June 21, and the jury returned guilty verdicts on all the charges after retiring for just half an hour.
Mr Dodds told the judge that the woman said in a victim impact statement that she had been humiliated and scared.
He added: “This prosecution say this was repeated rape of a victim.
“There was a background of intimidation and violence.
Ajaib faces almost certain deportation when he finishes his sentence, said Mr Hunt.
He added: “There are countries where he has worked before where women don’t even have the vote and are not allowed to drive cars.
“He has come to this country and gets it hopelessly wrong. He still struggles with understanding what went on.”
Judge Tony Briggs told Ajaib, who had no previous convictions: “She was in a vulnerable position, and you nonetheless continued with it, achieving your object by effectively holding her down.”
Ajaib, of Sadberge Road, Stockton, was jailed for 10 years, given sex offender’s registration for life, and banned from working with children,
He was found guilty of five charges of rape and an actual bodily harm assault over a nine month period ending in January.
